Mercury International Donates Le30m to King George VI Memorial Home

Mercury International Charitable Foundation has on Wednesday 2nd May, 2018 donated the sum of thirty million Leones (Le30 million) to King George VI Memorial Home for the aged on Grafton High way in the Western Rural District in Freetown.

Speaking during the handing over of the cheque to the home, Chairman, Mercury Charitable Foundation, Samir Hassan Hassanyeh said the donation was part of their corporate philanthropy and  social responsibility to people in need and that King George VI home for the aged was one vulnerable place that the betting company would help.

“I’m pleased to hand over a cheque of 30million Leones to the King George VI Home as part of our corporate social responsibility”, he said.

The Chairman said as long as they were in existence, they would continue to support the home adding that they have been helping them over six years now.

Mr. Hassanyeh added that they have been extending help to other institutions such as the Milton Margai School for the blind, school for the deaf among host of others.

“Tomorrow we will be going  to Cheshire Home and by next week we will visit Ballanta Musical  Academy and other home and institutions in need’’, Samir Hassanyeh said .

He however prayed for the aged for continued good health and God’s protection.

Head of the King George VI Home, Hannah Deen expressed thanks and appreciation to Mercury International Foundation for their extreme kindness.

“For the last eight years, Mercury has been supporting us, it’s always a welcome news receiving them here”, she said.

She said they have 35 residents in the home, some of whom are blind and some are in wheel chairs adding that there are also careers in the home to help the aged people.

Madam Deen further said this donation will help in the maintenance of the aged in the home and promised the money would be used judiciously.
